Prof. Dr.-Ing. Eckhard Quandt, born 1960, studied physics at Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel and at the Technical University Berlin where he received his diploma in 1986 in the field of electronic micrcoscopy. Since 1991 he is working on smart materials – from 1991 to 1999 at the Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe, afterward from 1999 to 2006 at the Forschungszentrum Caesar in Bonn and since 2006 at Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel where he holds the Chair for Inorganic Functional Materials at the Faculty of Engineering. From 2014 to 2016 he was Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel. From 2009 to 2014 he was member of the Materials Science and Engineering Expert Committee” (MatSEEC) of the European Science Foundation (ESF). Since 2012 he is member of the review board “Materials Science” of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) and member of the German National Academy of Science and Engineering (acatech).
